Happy New Year!
I hope everyone is ready to kick some serious butt in 2019. I know I am. I’m hoping this year is full of adventures both real and fictional, so we’ll see what happens. But on to what I read in the last 31 days of 2018. I have some pretty awesome reviews and hauls coming, so stay tuned.
This was a surprising month for me, to be honest. I don’t feel like I get much reading done in the last two months of the year because of the holidays and keeping up with deadlines at work, but somehow I managed to read a total of four books for December. Like I said, since I’m usually really busy with the holidays, spending time with friends/family, and keeping up at work I have to say that audiobooks saved my life. I always find time to listen whether it’s on my way to work or sitting at my desk writing up my client contacts.
With that being said my favorite read of the month has got to be SKYWARD by Brandon Sanderson! It was my first Sanderson book and it really did deliver everything I was expecting in this futuristic, space adventure. I thought the concept was pretty unique and the writing and world building were R E A L L Y awesome! But the thing that got me was the character development. I HATED the main character at the beginning because she was very whiny, but throughout the story we get to see some serious growth which I love! This was definitely a 5 star read for me.
You guys have probably already seen my reviews for Contagion by Erin Bowman and This Splintered Silence by Kayla Olson…and if you haven’t go check them out! They were also some of my December reads…can you guys see a theme here? Space was pretty prominent in my mind during December which I didn’t realize until now. I wish you guys could hear my laugh right now.
And to round off the year and meet my Goodreads goal of 60 books I caught my happy self up on Saga! I love this comic book series and I’m so glad I picked up the first volume. If you guys haven’t discovered Saga yet, right now is a REALLY good time to pick it up because the writers have taken a bit of a hiatus (I don’t remember the reason why) so there won’t be a new volume for a little while, but please be aware this comic series is NOT (I repeat N O T) for kiddos, so please don’t let the youngsters get a hold of them. There are inappropriate scenes and a lot of violence. The thing that makes the series so good for me is the family dynamic and the “realness” of the characters and their problems, not usually the situations they find themselves in.
What did you guys read in December? What was your favorite read of the year?
