January Wrap-Up

This month I read 6 books from my tbr. This year my goal was to read more of what I own instead of buying new books and adding more to the problem. I also am part of beat the blacklist challenge and reading any new books takes away from that as well. Let’s Dig into it.

  • This Mortal Coil – 4 stars

I usually do not get it to sci-fi type books, but a plague usually sucks me in. The writing in this novel is so well written and amazing. It was really fascinating to see all the technology throughout the book as well. How you could take a few pieces of code and fix something about yourself, it was really quite amazing.

  • Milk & Honey – 4 stars

I’m 50/50 on this one. I loved the sun and her flowers, but I didn’t enjoy this one as much. The overall writing just wasn’t as good as the sun and her flowers. It covered a bunch of issues women face and I found that aspect amazing, but none of the poems were blow me away type of thing.

  • Kiss Cam – 2 stars

I got about 3/4 through this and just gave up. I found really boring and stereotypical at times. The writing was really simple and just not anything like I expected it to be. I don’t really quite know how to describe this book accurately enough. It just wasn’t good.

  • The Hating Game – 5 stars

The Hating Game was incredibly good, way better than I ever expected it to be. It was a cute light fluffy book with a hate to love trope. Sally Thorne’s writing was amazing and this book pulled me out of my reading slump.

  • The Bear and the Nightingale – 5 Stars

This is probably my favorite read of the month. It was so magical and weird. The writing was good, but at times I found my self-rereading sections to make sense of what happened. Bear in the nightingale was like a fairy tale with a kickass main character that wanted more from the world than to be a servant for a man.

  • Long Way Down – 4 Stars

Long Way Down was an incredibly short book, but its premise was really good. It deals with a teenager who just lost his brother because someone shot him, so he wants to go and get revenge. When he leaves that night ghosts appear to him in the elevator ride down to try and talk him out of what he is doing, to show him that it will not help. I loved this book, it was fantastic.

These are some of the books I’ve read this month. Overall it was a good reading month. I hope next month I can up it to 10 books, but if I can keep reading 4 to 7 a month I will be happy. My main goal this year is to clear my bookshelves and either read the books or unhaul them.

What have you read this month?

  1. You read so much! Congrats! I agree with milk and honey too and I wasn’t a huge fan. I kind of just felt like it was just telling me all these depressing things about being in bad relationships, which felt kind of obvious and hoping it sounded deep. Would you recommend the sun and her flowers, or is it kind of the same type of things?

  2. You read so many great books this past month! This Mortal Coil is on my TBR list, and I can’t wait to read it. I found that I liked Milk and Honey more than the Sun and Her Flowers, but I read Milk and Honey first so maybe that’s why. I hope you have a great February! 🙂
