(Arc) Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray

She’s a soldier.

Noemi Vidal is seventeen years old and sworn to protect her planet, Genesis. She’s willing to risk anything—including her own life. To their enemies on Earth, she’s a rebel.

He’s a machine.

Abandoned in space for years, utterly alone, Abel has advanced programming that’s begun to evolve. He wants only to protect his creator, and to be free. To the people of Genesis, he’s an abomination.

Noemi and Abel are enemies in an interstellar war, forced by chance to work together as they embark on a daring journey through the stars. Their efforts would end the fighting for good, but they’re not without sacrifice. The stakes are even higher than either of them first realized, and the more time they spend together, the more they’re forced to question everything they’d been taught was true.

I never really get into sci-fi type books, it never really has been a genre I enjoyed. Claudia Gray had me with this one though, I read this in two days. I was hooked after just a few chapters. You have you two MC’s, Noemi and Abel. Noemi is a human from Genesis, Abel is a mech from Earth.

Earth is running out of resources and trying to colonize other planets. Genesis is one of the few planets with enough resources and clean air to breathe and Earth is trying to take it from them. Noemi is part of a crew that is willing to sacrifice their lives by flying into the gate and essentially blowing themselves up. Giving Genesis time to regain military strength to defend Genesis from Earths forces.

The writing in this book is dual perspective, but you never get lost in it or confused with the story. You can easily follow along there incredible j journey of trying to save Genesis.

I really enjoyed this book and I found out it will be a series. I can not wait to see where the story goes and how this journey end. I have never read any Claudia Gray books, but I will definitely be checking out her other novels.
