(Arc) Gork, the Teenage Dragon by Gabe Hudson

Gork isn’t like the other dragons at WarWings Military Academy. He has a gigantic heart, two-inch horns, and an occasional problem with fainting. His nickname is Weak Sauce and his Will to Power ranking is Snacklicious–the lowest in his class. But Gork is determined not to let any of this hold him back as he embarks on the most important mission of his life: tonight, on the eve of his high school graduation, he must ask a female dragon to be his queen. If she says yes, they’ll go off to conquer a foreign planet together. If she says no, Gork becomes a slave.
Vying with Jocks, Nerds, Mutants, and Multi-Dimensioners to find his mate, Gork encounters an unforgettable cast of friends and foes, including Dr. Terrible, the mad scientist; Fribby, a robot dragon obsessed with death; and Metheldra, a healer specializing in acupuncture with swords. But finally, it is Gork’s biggest perceived weakness, his huge heart, that will guide him through his epic quest and help him reach his ultimate destination: planet Earth.

This was such a fun, cute and quick read. First of all, you are reading about dragons, this dragon species is simply amazing. The way they do combat and crown day. It was simply amazing getting to see another world like this. the author’s imagination is simply amazing and that comes out in the writing fabulously. The MC is obviously gork, an orphan dragon whose spaceship has crashed on Earth and now he has been wandering around for three years doing his best to survive. One day is grandpa comes to save him and take him back to his home planet. You then Speed up to Gork on crown day, coming close to death several times all to ask a Girl to accept his crown.

The majority of this book takes place on the crown day. The male Dragons have to ask a Female if they will accept their crown and go off to another planet to mate and conquer that specific planet. I absolutely loved this novel for a few reasons:

  1. Gork has the biggest heart, he is sweet and cares, even though he constantly gets that thrown in his face for being weak.
  2. The way gorks parents die is absolutely heartbreaking, but gorks mother leaves him a video behind that truly helps put the ending of the book together.
  3. You get to see the underdog come out on top. lol, I’m a sucker for that type of story, I just like to see the good guys win.
  4. You see Gork go through thinking he wants to crown one girl, but secretly his heart already belongs to another, he just doesn’t know it yet.

I thought while first reading this novel, I wouldn’t enjoy it. I quickly changed my mind a few pages in. This is a book of heartbreak, love, knowing your “Weakness” is actually a strength, trusting who you really are and finding true love.

**I was provided a free PDF copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions of the novel are my own.
